The Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) has launched ‘Food Stack’, a digital database and application project in collaboration with the United Nations’ World Food Programme (WFP), to support farmers and other stakeholders in the agriculture and agrifood sectors.

The digital platform features a broad spectrum of functions including use of geospatial intelligence to identify crop types, field boundaries, and growth stages besides monitoring crop health indicators including the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) and estimation of yields

It also involves climate data integration and early warning systems, analysis of agricultural risks based on artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, in addition to interactive dashboards to support decision-making by ministries and their partners. The Food Stack also provides guidance to farmers pertaining to crop type, location, risk level, and production conditions.

The platform will also enable MoA to digitalize farmer registration and implement a traceability system of food products.

The project is part of the GATE program financed by a $200 million World Bank loan.
